My name is W. Allen Pfeister, CPA. For longer than I have been a dad or a husband, I have been a tax guy. Having lived in four countries on three continents I have personal experience with the tribulations and joys of expat life and how they affect our financial choices.
Under the U.S. tax code, U.S. citizens and green card holders are taxed wherever we are in the world. Or outside of it. Even U.S. astronauts on the International Space Station don’t get a pass.
Not having tax liability does not excuse us from filing. We are also required to report our account balances to the U.S. Treasury each year if we hold financial accounts with foreign institutions- this includes pension accounts.
While the deadline for filing is still April 15th, as expats we get an automatic extension to June 15th. This can be extended to October 15th upon making a request to the IRS. However, this is only for filing. If tax is owed, that bill is due April 15th.
I uncomplicate the process of filing your taxes and am just a click or call away. Unlike other companies when you contact me, you work with me. From the first question to the end return result.
